LA LEZIONE DI VITTORIO CAPECCHI
L’Ex Aula 1 dell’Alma Mater nel complesso di Via de Guasto viene dedicata in onore del Professore Emerito Vittorio Capecchi. Nella dedica andrebbe inserita questa sua riflessione: << Il nome di QQ [Quality and Quantity, la rivista da lui fondata] finisce con l’avere un significato più profondo: si può infatti affermare che per arrivare alla “quantity” (la misurazione e la previsione dei fenomeni della cultura scientifica) occorre vedervi strettamente collegata la “quality” (i valori etici della ricerca)>>. La cultura scientifica è profondamente intrecciata con la cultura economica, agendo scienza e tecnologia da motori che muovono l’economia. Questa, di solito, è intesa come macchina per fare soldi. Lo scrittore William B. Burroughs si è chiesto: <<Cosa mangia la macchina dei soldi? Mangia la giovinezza, la spontaneità, la vita, la bellezza e, soprattutto, mangia la creatività. Mangia la qualità e defeca la quantità>>. Nella corsa al successo, identificato con l’accumulazione di ricchezza materiale, primeggiano i Grandi Predatori del valore identificato col profitto. Tanti sono i fallimenti aziendali provocati dall’idea che l’obiettivo finale dell’impresa sia il profitto. Questo, invece, dovrebbe essere un mezzo per ideare, progettare, produrre, consegnare prodotti, fornire servizi, disseminare conoscenza e informazione: è questa la catena del valore aziendale.
La qualità genera idee che infondono tanto coraggio da farle partire e tanta tenacità da continuare a seguirle fino a vedere i loro semi affiorare attraverso la superficie sporca dell’impossibilità. Poi arriva il tempo in cui le idee si dovranno annaffiare e fecondare fino a quando giunge finalmente il giorno della raccolta dei loro frutti. Un impasto di creatività, curiosità, empatia, umorismo e passione dà forma alle qualità personali che separano l’uomo che pensa e inventa dalla macchina che produce cose, quantità di risorse che alimentano il processo produttivo, quantità di beni e servizi da vendere, grande quantità di dati che tracciano scenari macro e micro economici. La quantità è, dunque, misurabile, può essere espressa con valori numerici. Non lo è la qualità che è così grande da non poter essere quantificata o misurata con mezzi convenzionali. Essa contiene gentilezza amorevole, compassione, gioia compassionevole ed equanimità: gli “incommensurabili”, secondo il Buddhismo tibetano.
La qualità attribuisce grande importanza alle relazioni interpersonali che promuovono fiducia, benessere psiciologico e sostegno reciproco. Affezionati solo a se stessi, non cercando l’amicizia ma solo il profitto, l’asticella della felicità volge verso il basso. La formazione di ambienti di innovazione dipende dall’intensità e dalla qualità delle relazioni fra le popolazioni aziendali viventi in uno stesso habitat. La specie dei ‘Commensali’ non apporta all’habitat una dote, non reca disturbo, non interagisce con le altre specie. I ‘Predatori’ cacciano le altre specie dell’habitat. I ‘Parassiti’ sfruttano il richiamo dell’habitat in cui si localizzano. I ‘Simbionti’ vivono e crescono in stretta relazione con le altre specie; cercano complementarietà nel loro habitat.
La rivista QQ di Capecchi ha spontaneamente gemmato circoli di qualità dove si rispettano le relazioni umane, si crea un’atmosfera positiva e si rende il lavoro un’attività del pensiero. Come amano dire i giapponesi, “se l’acqua sgorga pura dalla sorgente e scorre limpida a monte, non c’è bisogno di purificarla, poi, a valle”. Insomma, sulla qualità si deve giocare d’anticipo. Essa, al pari della salute, va mantenuta e migliorata. Niente più delle azioni preventive può servire per migliorare qualitativamente le prestazioni nei luoghi di lavoro. E gli interventi vanno compiuti con continuità perché la qualità è dinamica, cambiando nel tempo la percezione che ne hanno sia le imprese sia i consumatori. Quello della qualità è un lungo viaggio d’avventura a tutto tondo. Un percorso compiuto da Vittorio Capecchi con lo spirito dell’esploratore che s’inoltra in terre ignote. Le sue mappe mentali forniscono idee nel segno della qualità che fa sentire sempre più forte nella scena economica l’intonazione altruistica al posto dell’accento egoistico. Chissà se nella targa sarà rappresenta la qualità recata dall’altruismo che nello spazio culturale rincorre e supera la quantità prodotta dall’egoismo.
